396 AVC I Localized Design Thinking Posters

396 Applied Visual Communications I Course taught in the Fall 2009 Semester at Medicine Hat College – Design For Social Cause Posters

Students were given their own bulletin boards located throughout the college campus. Using ‘localized’ problem solving / perceptive thinking strategies, they were asked to communicate a social issue of their own choice. Emphasis was placed upon a strategy of minimal design intervention through the use of sustainable materials. Can messages be communicated through using a ‘necessity based’ design strategy? Can the resources in a given context assist in framing the problem differently?

Student works are for the following social causes:
1. Lower Carbon Footprints
2. Canada Student Debt
3. Freedom of Expression
4. World Health Day
5. World Hello Day
6. Amnesty Human Rights
