A British born graphic designer and educator. Giles holds a BA(Hons) in Media & Production Design from the London College of Printing (now Communications). He ran a successful graphic design consultancy called boing! in partnership with Jeff Leak from 1994 – 1998, based in Kidderminster United Kingdom. Giles moved from the UK to Alberta, Canada in 1998 to assume the position of Senior Design Instructor at Medicine Hat College. From 2001 – 2010 he was a partner in the Calgary design studio Fishten. Giles now works independently as a designer, consultant, design thinker, communication strategist and educator.
His works have appeared in many journals, including Applied Arts, Coupe, and Creative Review, and in books by publishers such as Rockport, Rotovision, and How. Giles has been recognized for his design accomplishments by Ad Rodeo, AIGA, and GDC Graphex. Giles attained a Master of Design degree from NSCAD University. His ongoing design research includes localized problem solving and vernacular communication. He is also interested in popular culture, fashion, music and collecting unique artifacts.
Giles is a CGD a Certified Graphic Designer and Member of the Society of Graphic Designers of Canada.
